Mirela Kovac

Kovac paints large flat shapes that overlap as if they were coloured glass. Every overlap is mixed and painted as its own colour rather than glazed, so what looks like transparency is a decision made by hand, edge by taped edge, on raw unprimed canvas. She works from cut paper studies pinned to the studio wall and throws away more of them than she paints.
